WELCOME!
One of our district goals is to “...consistently apply and strengthen strategies that foster respect, and value diversity in a safe and caring environment.” As an Assistant Principal in my sixth year at the middle school level, I have fully realized the importance of staff and parents working together to ensure the safety and success of all students. Since some of my major responsibilities include safety and student discipline, I would like to draw your attention to some the different ways we try to provide a safe, secure environment for the students on many levels. Please take a few moments to review the information provided below.

Students are to clear campus no later than 3:00 PM each day and 2:15 PM on Wednesdays. Students are to clear campus no later than 3:00 PM each day and 2:15 PM on Wednesdays. Staff also supervises students during the morning break and during lunch.
- Emergency Drills Top – Stone Valley staff and students conduct monthly fire/evacuation drills, as well as civil defense (earthquake and intruder) drills twice a year. Our drills are observed and critiqued by local law enforcement and fire protection agencies.
- Visitors on Campus Top – It is imperative visitors sign in at the office and wear a visitor's badge if you are going to be anywhere on campus outside the office. In order to ensure the students' safety, we ask that you do not pull up to the eating area or the front of the school to hand off items.
- Bicycle Safety Top – If your child rides his/her bike to school, please review the “Rules of the Road” with your son/daughter. Rules for cyclists are nearly identical to the motor vehicle code for cars, i.e., riding with traffic, stopping at stop signs, walking bikes across the street, etc. Children under the age of 18 are required to wear a helmet and buckle it. Once on campus, students must walk their bikes to the bike rack.
- Parking Lot Safety Top – When entering or leaving the school parking lot, please avoid distractions (cell phones, etc.), pull forward to the next open spot, watch for children, insist that your children use the crosswalks, use the crosswalk yourself, and do not turn left on Miranda when exiting the parking lot.
- Dress Code Top – Please review the dress code with your child located in the Student Handbook on page 12. Remember, what a student wears out of the house in the morning, may not be what he or she comes to school in.

- Additional Resources Top
- Bullying Prevention Program - We also strive to create a safe campus climate, free of bullying and harassment. We are in our third year of the Community Matters Safe School Ambassador program www.safeschoolambassadors.org where trained students use non violent communication skills to interven in situations of teasing, bullying, and other forms of violence. All students are encouraged to report incidents of bullying and harassment to a staff person. Pervasive incidents should be reported to an administrator or school counselor.
- Welcome Every Body (W.E.B.) - A program designed to welcome new students on to our campus. Seventh and eighth students buddy up with sixth grade students kicked off by an orientation day before the start of school. Activities through out the year continue to foster this relationship.
- Student Council - A body of students who meet once a month led by the Leadership class to communicate about school activities and address campus ideas and issues. They are responsible for gathering feedback and disseminating important information to his/her fourth period class.
- 40 Developmental Assets - The Search Institute has identified 40 positive experiences and qualities that all of us have the power to bring into the lives of children and youth, which are called developmental assets. The assets are spread across eight broad areas of human development. These categories paint a picture of the positive things all young people need to grow up healthy and responsible. It is important for families, schools, communities, the media, and others to all give young people consistent and similar messages about what is important and what is expected of them. See the Search Institute's web site for a list of assets and some ways to foster them with your child(ren).
- Pride Acronym – Students learned of the “Traits of the Pride” in a grade level presentation given by the principal and assistant principal. We expect that all students will incorporate these traits into their lives and demonstrate them on a daily basis.
